Charter Guide · Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is a non-negotiable part of meticulous planning. Our phinisis follow stringent safety protocols, but the remote nature of this archipelago demands robust personal protection.
Why It’s Essential
Thousands of islands mean limited medical facilities. Evacuation to Sorong, Makassar, or Singapore can be complex and extremely costly — insurance manages the logistical and financial burden.
Flight delays causing missed connections, illness before departure, or an early return — insurance safeguards non-refundable deposits and pre-paid expenses.
Lost or delayed baggage, personal liability, legal assistance, and cover for the specialised diving or photography equipment common on a Raja Ampat trip.
The Checklist
Not all policies are equal for a specialised liveaboard charter. Scrutinise these four areas before you buy.
The most critical component — emergency treatment, hospitalisation, and medical evacuation. Confirm limits substantial enough for international air ambulance, with explicit Indonesia cover and remote air/sea evacuation.
Protects your outlay if you must cancel for covered reasons (illness, injury, family emergency), and reimburses unused portions and extra expenses if the journey is cut short.
Cover for lost, stolen, or damaged gear — note per-item and overall limits. High-value diving or camera equipment may require separate declaration or riders.
Confirm recreational diving is explicitly covered to your intended depth (typically 30–40 m), plus snorkelling and kayaking. Specialist dive cover such as DAN is recommended for decompression and hyperbaric costs.
Even the most robust policies carry specific exclusions — a thorough review avoids unpleasant surprises at claim time. In particular, pre-existing medical conditions are often excluded unless specifically declared and approved, frequently for an additional premium. Disclose any conditions and confirm they are covered before you travel.
